The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, announced this via his Twitter handle on Wednesday. The Federal Government has lifted the ban stopping Emirates Airlines from operating in Nigeria. Air France, KLM, Etihad, Air Namibia, Royal Air Maroc, Lufthansa, TAAG, and others were all granted approval to resume operations in the country.
Hadi said it was necessary for Nigeria to implement the principle of reciprocity to all countries that had banned flights from Nigeria to all those that had been banned from flying in the past. He said: “UAE has written to state that they agree to issue visas to Nigerians, consequently decision has been reached to allow Emirates to fly into Nigeria.
Commencement of the Visa issuance is condition precedent. Please bear with this unusual situation” . The ban was lifted on September 30, 2014. The resumption of flights in Nigeria is set to continue on October 1, 2015.
